Who wouldn’t like free training designed to help you climb the corporate ladder? Everyone wants to get ahead right?

Unfortunately if you’re white, you don’t qualify for McKinsey & Company’s training!

Who is McKinsey & Company

McKinsey & Company is a global management consulting firm that offers professional services to corporations, governments and other organization. (1)

This is a company with an impressive list of clients, to put it into perspective, here is a list of their top 8 clients (2):

  1. U.S. Defense Department
  2. Microsoft
  3. U.S. Postal Service
  4. Coca-Cola
  5. Best Buy
  6. U.S. Department of Energy
  7. Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
  8. Canadian supermarket chain Loblaws

What is wrong with McKinsey’s Management Leadership Programs?

It can’t be that bad if companies like Best Buy and Liberty Mutual are offering it to their employees am I right?

Well, you tell me!

The leaked document above shows the requirements an employee needs to have in order to register for McKinsey Management Leadership Academy Programs. 3 out of the 4 requirements are pretty standard, but the 3rd one is hard to believe:

‘’Identify as Black, Latino, Hispanic, Asian or Pacific Islander.’’

Yeah, you read that right!

If you believe that this is a typo or an isolated incident, you would be wrong…

Turns out that Liberty Mutual, another client of McKinsey’s is also offering such a course. To be eligible to join an upcoming McKinsey & Company Development Program, an employee of Liberty Mutual must ‘’Identifies as Asian, Black, or Hispanic/Latinx.’’

In other words, you can’t be WHITE!

If this isn’t racism I do now know what is!

As the definition of racism changed?

Since the definition of a woman has been changed to include how someone feels, maybe I was out of date and the same had been done with the definition of racism.

‘’Racism is discrimination and prejudice towards people based on their race or ethnicity. Racism can be present in social actions, practices, or political systems that support the expression of prejudice or aversion in discriminatory practices.’’ (3)

Looks like the definition has not changed after all…

The irony in all of this is that McKinsey prides itself on having a plan to accelerate change within their firm and help combat racism across the world. (4)

I guess it’s not considered racism when it’s done towards white people. Does that mean that only white people can be racist?

I will let you answer this one!

Let me know what you think in the comments below.
