3 and a half years ago, I started questioning my identity. At 38 years of age, I had come to a point where I had lost myself. I was my career. I was Nico, the sales engineer. I made my career my purpose for so long that I had forgotten that this was just a means to an end.
I never planned to stay in the corporate world for the rest of my life. I was buying my time until I could separate myself and do what I really wanted to do. Sounds easy enough, right?
Yeah, NO!
Chasing my purpose
I spend a lot of time in isolation in the middle of nowhere, working on myself and my future. I worked every day to become who I was meant to do. Ready to start chasing after my purpose, I did the work. I sacrificed, removed all distractions from my life, and kissed goodbye to most of my relationships, so I could invest all my free time in putting the foundation I needed in place.
Then in September 2023, I left my old life behind. I’ve been on the road ever since from Mandeville, QC, Canada, through New York state, down to Arizona. This adventure has been a blast. It’s hard to believe everything that came out of this journey. I’ve been in Yuma, Arizona, for the past month and will soon be headed to Colorado.
Sure, I visited some cool places, like the ones you see in Hollywood movies! I’ve ridden my motorcycle on the Tail of the Dragon, the USA’s best motorcycle and sports car road. 318 curves in 11 miles! At some points, my handles were almost touching the ground due to the steepness of the curves. It was quite the ride, BUT do you know what the best part of this whole adventure is?
The people that I’ve met.
Everything happens for a reason
When you are on the path of your purpose, the powers at hand conspire to help you. It puts people on your path to help you. Call it God, nature, or the universe. It wants you to fulfill your destiny. I don’t believe in coincidences; everything happens for a reason. This might sound crazy or farfetched but ask yourself this: What is the point of living if you don’t follow your heart? If you don’t go after what you want?
Do you know what the number one regret of the dying is? Living the life others expected of them instead of living the life they wanted to live. This is about the next time you are trying to decide if you should or shouldn’t take a risk and go after something you really want. You only live once, made as well make it count, right? There are no do-overs!
I’ve been on the road for more than 7 months, chasing after my purpose, my personal legend. It’s been incredible until now, but it’s only the beginning. This is what happens when you decide to go all in!
Watch out for what’s coming!
